Side-lying massage is very comfortable. During your massage session, pillows are placed in key places: a special neck/shoulder pillow allows your shoulder to gently rest on the massage table, while keeping your neck and back in relaxed alignment; another pillow placed between your legs – allowing lower back muscles to relax; and another pillow, kind of like a soft teddy bear, to snuggle under your arm/shoulder of the ‘up-side’ shoulder, allowing greater relaxation during your massage session.

Side-Lying Massage:

  • allows greater breathing during the massage session. Face down during a massage, for many promotes congestion in the sinuses – side-lying allows sinuses to stay free.
  • allows the shoulders, hips, back muscles to have greater ease during the massage.
  • allows the Massage Therapist to administer Cross-Fiber Massage, Orthopedic and Neuromuscular Massage technique to break up scar tissue/adhesions.
  • allows greater techniques to be administered, relaxing spinal muscles, neck, shoulder and hip muscles – thus, releasing tightness and increasing Range of Motion.
  • allows — during Pre-natal Massage — access to your back, hips without duress to you and your baby.
  • allows the muscles to gently fall away from the skeletal structures – spine, shoulder blades, hips – allowing the Massage Therapist to release these areas in a 3-dimensional approach. Promoting release, such as, under your shoulder blade and other tight areas of your body.
